Omicron has been aquired by AUTRONICA FIRE & SAFETY A/S (A UTC FIRE & SECURITY COMPANY)

UTCFS acquires Omicron

UTCFS has acquired Omicron, a global leader in the design, manufacture and sale of detection and alarm marine systems, including high-level and gas-sensing technology systems for the marine business segment.

Founded in 1989, Omicron’s headquarters and manufacturing facilities are located near Oslo, Norway. With 2007 revenues of approximately $9 million, the company currently employs 31 people. Omicron will be managed by Autronica, a Norwegian-based business in Systems & Fire Fighting EMEA, specializing in detection and alarm systems for the marine business segment.

“The acquisition of Omicron will significantly strengthen UTCFS’s position in the marine segment,“ said Scott Buckhout, President of Systems & Fire Fighting EMEA.

“We are pleased to join forces with Omicron to grow our business,” said Frode Lund, Managing Director of Autronica. With Omicron’s complementary product range, Autronica is well-positioned to become a complete fire detection system provider for the ship building industry, which demands a comprehensive fire and gas detection product portfolio from its system suppliers.

“Omicron has great customer relationships and solutions for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) ships, chemical and oil tanker vessels and bulk category ship categories,” continued Frode. Over the past 19 years Omicron has been able to build close business relationships with more than 1,800 customers with products installed on more than 5,000 ships.

“UTCFS’ acquisition of Omicron opens a new set of possibilities for us”, said Tom Ivar Iversen, Managing Director of Omicron.  “We will have access to an extended sales force and more opportunities to develop products. The complementary products in Autronica’s portfolio will provide the customer with a better product range and service offering.”

Today, approximately 75 percent of Omicron’s sales are generated via a worldwide agent network and 25 percent through direct sales. The majority of sales come from the Nordic region (Sweden, Norway, Denmark), Asia (China, Korea, Singapore), and Europe.

“We look forward to providing superior service to a larger customer base and advancing towards our goal to become the clear choice for customers in the marine business segment,” said Frode.
